  • Author Talk

    Jill gives a 45-minute interactive talk ("How and Why to Put Yourself Into Your Art"), followed by a 15-minute Q&A and signing session. This talk focuses on:

    • Jill's professional background before she became an author

    • Encouraging students to dig into niche interests that make them who they are

    • Why using AI to write is a waste of time (even though it may be faster)

    • What we owe to our readers/audience as artists (even before we've made our very first piece of art)

    Workshop - Creating Your Own Dystopia

    Jill leads a 50-minute workshop on the dystopian genre-- why it's important, what all dystopian stories have in common (from Fahrenheit 451 to the Hunger Games), and how students can use metaphor, setting, and character to create their own compelling dystopian stories about issues that matter to them.
